We call on the US and UN for the immediate release of Camp Liberty
resident Safar Zakery who has been illegally in detention in Baghdad for the
past two weeks because all of the Iraqi officials’ promises regarding the
release of Mr. Zakery have proven to be hollow.
The Iraqi police under the orders of mullahs’ regime paid hands
surprisingly announced that Mr. Safar Zakery who according to eye witnesses was
innocent in crash scene was responsible instead of summoning the SWAT unit
HUVMEE driver to the court who was indeed responsible for the accident. The
Iraqi police made that to be able to hold Mr. Zakery under arrest.
Despite many letters and calls to the UN and US Embassy’s officials none
of the measures have been effective. The most catastrophic fact is that for a
car accident they never arrest anyone but the Iraqi police has done such an
illegal act.
We call on the UNHCR and US Embassy’s representatives to take the
nessecary steps against the arrest of Mr. Zakery which is on political grounds.
